Rajesh Kumar, a 1995-batch Indian Police Service officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed Director General of Police of Arunachal Pradesh, according to an order approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The appointment follows his premature repatriation from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to his parent cadre with immediate effect.
The Ministry of Home Affairs had proposed Kumar’s return, while the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions issued the order recording the decision. Kumar was serving as Special Director General, CRPF, a position to which he had been promoted in September 2026 on an in-situ basis.
Officer returns to AGMUT cadre
Kumar joined the CRPF on central deputation around March 2018 as an Inspector General. His responsibilities included senior operational and administrative assignments within the force. In June 2019, after the Pulwama attack, he was appointed IG CRPF (Operations), Kashmir, during a period of heightened security activity in Jammu and Kashmir.
His earlier career also included several senior positions in the Union Territory’s security and law-and-order structure. The assignments listed for him include Deputy Inspector General of the North Kashmir Range covering the Baramulla area, Inspector General of Jammu Zone and Inspector General of the Special Security Group (SSG).

The record of postings gives him experience across counter-insurgency, internal security operations and police administration.
