The Chief of the Army Staff, General Dhiraj Seth, visited the Garhwal Sector on 27 October 2026 to review the Indian Army’s operational preparedness and to inspect projects aimed at developing border communities, the Army said.
Operational briefings and frontline interaction
During the visit to Mana and Joshimath, General Seth received briefings on operational readiness, combat preparedness and ongoing infrastructure development in the sector. The Army said he interacted with troops deployed in the area and commended their professionalism, dedication and resilience in safeguarding the country’s frontiers.
The Army statement said the COAS underlined the need to remain prepared for evolving security challenges and urged a continued emphasis on three priorities:
- greater integration of technology into force structures and operations
- continuous capability enhancement through training and modernisation
- sustained operational vigilance along the border
Focus on border communities and livelihoods
As part of the visit, General Seth also toured Mana, described by the Army as India’s First Village. The COAS acknowledged the combined efforts of Army personnel and local residents in promoting tourism, preserving cultural heritage and creating socio‑economic opportunities in the remote area. The visit was framed by the Army as reflecting a dual focus: maintaining operational readiness while supporting development of frontier villages.
No additional figures, unit names or operational movements were disclosed in the Army’s account of the visit.
