Security agencies in Jammu on 24 October carried out a series of preparedness and prevention activities that included a joint search at the District Jail Amphalla, an anti-tunnelling exercise by the Border Security Force (BSF) at a forward post in the Ramgarh sector and multi-agency mock drills at Jammu Railway Station and a CRPF camp in the Banihal area of Ramban district.

What was done and where

Officials said the joint search at District Jail Amphalla involved jail staff, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police and began at around 10:00 am. The operation lasted for more than an hour and, according to officials, no suspicious or objectionable material was found inside the premises.

In Samba district, the BSF conducted an anti-tunnelling exercise in the forward area along the International Border (IB) at Border Outpost Lalfamkima in the Ramgarh sector. The exercise was aimed at detecting any possible cross-border tunnels that could be used for infiltration or smuggling of arms, ammunition and other contraband. Officials said that, when last reported, no tunnel or subterranean structure had been detected.

Mock drills to test coordination

At Jammu Railway Station, a mock drill involving the Railway Protection Force (RPF), fire and emergency services, medical teams and a bomb disposal squad (BDS) was held to strengthen inter-agency coordination and operational preparedness for emergency situations. Teams from the CID Special Branch and CID Counter Intelligence were also present, officials said.

Separately, a joint security and emergency response drill at a CRPF camp in the Banihal area of Ramban district began at 11:00 am and concluded at 12:20 pm. The exercise involved troops of the Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF personnel, the RPF, the GRP, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local police, fire and emergency services and the block medical officer (BMO), Banihal.
