The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth over ₹810 crore with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the procurement of 160 Satellite Smart Anti‑Airfield Weapons (SAT‑SAAW) and associated equipment for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The contract was signed in New Delhi in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, the Ministry said.
Contract scope and schedule
The Ministry announced that deliveries of SAT‑SAAW are scheduled across two financial periods: 2027–28 and 2028–29. The system is an air‑to‑ground precision‑guided glide bomb designed to engage airfield targets from a long stand‑off range.
- Buyer: Indian Ministry of Defence (for the Indian Air Force)
- Supplier: Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL)
- Value: over ₹810 crore
- Quantity: 160 SAT‑SAAW

Platforms, indigenisation and capabilities
The Ministry said SAT‑SAAW, indigenously designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), can be launched from platforms including Jaguar, Hawk and Su‑30MKI. The weapon is intended to neutralise enemy airfields while enabling the launching aircraft to remain at a long stand‑off distance.
The Ministry stated the system will have an indigenous content of 60 per cent. It also named specific sub‑systems targeted for indigenisation: the Initial Measurement Unit, the Long Impact Delay Fuse and the Twin Store Carrier. The Ministry linked the procurement to the government’s objective of boosting self‑reliance in defence manufacturing.
