J&K: Two Terrorists Killed; Assault Rifles Recovered

Baramulla, Tuesday, 4 May 2021: Based on specific intelligence inputs received from the Jammu and Kashimir Police (JKP) regarding presence of some terrorists in a specific cluster of houses in Gosia Colony, Nathipora of Sopore town, in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district. Joint forces comprising of Rashtirya Rifles (RR), JKP and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a specific operation yesterday afternoon (4 May 2021) at 1.30 pm.

After laying the initial cordon, search of the houses were carried out during which terrorists retaliated with a heavy volume of fire. Subsequently, announcements were made for surrender, however terrorists continued to rain fire and a gunfight ensued. During the fire fight, "strict restraint was exercised to avoid collateral damage," said an Indian Army official knowledgeable about the operation.

"A Joint operation was launched today afternoon based on inputs from J&K Police. The area was cordoned off and contact established. A firefight ensued in which two terrorists were eliminated and an AK series assualt rifle and an INSAS rifle were recovered," said an army spokesperson about the operation. "In the ensuing fire fight, two terrorists were eliminated, one AK and one INSAS Rifle were recovered. A Joint search operation is underway at the site of operation, added the spokesperson.
